Ian McAnerin / McAnerin Studios

The most compelling photograph ever taken of you hasn't been taken yet.

Most of the images that exist of you are likely fragments—quick snapshots on a smartphone, or perhaps a dated professional headshot that no longer feels like 'you.' As your Visual Biographer, I believe the definitive portrait of your life requires more than a lens; it requires an intentional environment. Whether we are documenting your professional influence or your private radiance, we aren’t just taking a picture—we are creating a permanent, artistic anchor that reflects the true depth of the life you’ve built.

Sovereign Allure™. Portraits. Corporate and Actor Headshots. Model portfolios. Lifestyle & Branding. Boudoir. Each one a deliberate act of image-making for people who understand that how you are seen in the world is worth getting exactly right.

Let's Talk. No pressure. No obligation. Just a chance to figure out what's possible.

To have a photographer who understands that it’s never just a photo… that it’s about identity, presence, and spirit — that means everything to me.

Thank you for documenting the part of me that refuses to be overlooked. The woman who can meet the lens head-on and say, “I am here. I matter. I take up space.”

You don’t just capture images — you capture courage. And I am so grateful to create with someone who sees that fire and honours it.

Which Session Is Right for You?

Not sure where to start? Here's how people usually find their way in.

Every session at McAnerin Studios begins with the same question: what do you want to feel when you look at these images? The answer usually points clearly to where you belong.

Sovereign AllureYou want to feel beautiful, magnetic, and entirely yourself. Not exposed. Not performing. Just undeniably, powerfully you. This is the portrait experience for people who have always wanted something more than a standard photo — something that captures who they actually are, not just what they look like.

Portraits & HeadshotsYou need an image that does you justice — professionally, personally, or both. Whether it's a LinkedIn profile that finally matches your calibre, a family portrait that captures this chapter, or simply a photograph you're proud to put your name to, this is where we start.

Lifestyle & BrandingYou've built something real, and the world needs to see it. Branding photography for entrepreneurs, executives, creatives, and professionals who understand that how you show up visually is part of how seriously you are taken. These images tell your story before you say a word.

Model & Actor Portfolios You're ready to be seen by the people who make decisions. A portfolio that gets you in the room — built with an understanding of what agents, casting directors, and clients are actually looking for. Whether you're just starting out or refreshing your book, this is where careers get taken seriously.

BoudoirThis one is entirely for you. An intimate, private, and deeply personal session that has nothing to do with anyone else's expectations and everything to do with your own. Empowering, artful, and handled with complete discretion.

Still not sure? Start with a conversation. There's no obligation — just a chance to figure out together what would serve you best.

What to Expect

There are no surprises here. Just a process designed to make you feel at ease from the first message to the final image.

Step 1 — The Consultation Every session begins with a conversation — a relaxed, no-pressure call or message where we talk about what you're hoping for, what you're nervous about, and what would make this experience feel worth it. This is where we figure out the right session for you, and where most people realize they've been overthinking it.

Step 2 — The Preparation Once your session is booked, you won't be left wondering what to do. You'll receive clear, friendly guidance on what to wear, how to prepare, and what to expect when you arrive — tailored to your specific session type. The goal is for you to walk through the door feeling ready, not anxious.

Step 3 — The Session This is where it happens. A private, fully equipped Calgary studio. Professional lighting. Expert direction that means you never have to figure out what to do with your hands. Most people are surprised by how quickly they relax — and by how different it feels to be in front of a lens when someone behind it genuinely knows what they're doing.

Step 4 — Your Images Your finished, fully retouched digital images are delivered via a private, password-protected online gallery — typically within one to two weeks of your session. Printed images are revealed and delivered in a followup session once they arrive from the lab.

What Clients Say

The images are one thing. The experience is another. Here's what people say about both.

Ian consistently delivers exceptional exposure and composition in every shot. His creative ideas for props are impressive, and he has a talent for thinking on his feet. For instance, he surprised me with butterfly wings on a photo for my divorce photo shoot. Above all, his friendly and personable nature makes me feel at ease.

@yuliasavagegrasp

Ian is absolutely amazing.

It’s always such a pleasure working with him—he brings such a calm, professional energy to every shoot. Not only is he an incredibly talented photographer, but he truly knows his craft inside and out. He makes you feel so comfortable and confident in front of the camera, which makes all the difference.

His editing is next level—every photo comes out flawless. He’s easily one of my favorites to work with, and I can’t recommend him enough. 10/10 every time. 🔥📸

This Is For You If…

You don't have to fit a mould to belong here. But if any of these sound familiar, you're exactly who we had in mind.

  • You've been putting this off for years and have quietly decided that this is the year you stop.
  • You're building something — a business, a brand, a career — and your current images don't reflect the level you're operating at.
  • You've never had a photograph of yourself that you genuinely loved, and you're starting to wonder if that's actually possible.
  • You want a portfolio that gets you taken seriously in a competitive industry.
  • You've spent a long time making sure everyone else looks good in photographs. This time, it's for you.
  • You're marking something — a milestone, a transition, a chapter that deserves to be documented properly.
  • You know, somewhere, that you are worth being photographed well. You just haven't done anything about it yet.

If you read this list and felt even one of those land — that's enough. You're in the right place.

You've been thinking about this longer than you'd like to admit.

That's usually a sign.

There's a version of you that exists in images — clear-eyed, fully present, looking exactly like the person you've worked hard to become. Those images haven't been taken yet. But they're not as far away as you think.

The first step is just a conversation.

No pressure. No obligation. Just a chance to figure out what's possible.
